"Social" Media

I have always thought that the term "social media" was an odd concept. It is using technology or media to replace what feels like years ago was called a conversation. I feel like the purpose behind social media should be to create opportunities or set up events where people can interact but because as a society we have to be continually entertained, we still have our phones out and in use. It doesn't make any sense. We are trying to make something happen that occurs naturally because we are too impatient to wait for it. Technology can be an amazing thing! I am hundreds if not thousands of miles away from people and I can see them and talk with them face to face in a streaming live video and not be connected to anything! That is a miracle for people who don't understand wireless technology. However, social media is a tool and to use it correctly, we can't replace spending time or creating relationships with others in person with a "generation of idiots, smart phones, and dumb people."
